DFI at VOX: My Father's Shadow

Recipient of the Caméra d’Or Special Distinction at Cannes and the first Nigerian film to screen in Cannes Official Selection, Akinola Davies Jr.’s ‘My Father’s Shadow’ is a tender, poetic portrait of family, memory and boyhood. Set over the course of one day in 1993 Lagos, against the backdrop of Nigeria’s election crisis, the film follows Folarin, an estranged father, as he takes his two young sons through the vast, vibrant city. As political uncertainty grows around them, the boys begin to see their father more clearly: his struggles, his silences, his warmth and the fragile bond they share.
