Jurassic Park Movies In Order And Their IMDb Scores
Let's be honest – who doesn't love a good dinosaur movie? And they don't get much better than the Jurassic Park films. From the original, groundbreaking film in 1993 to the latest 'monster flick' about to storm its way across our cinema screens, Jurassic Park brought new life to the genre. The first movie was a huge success and a global blockbuster that introduced us to a world where dinosaurs once again roamed the earth. Jurassic Park movies in chronological order, including the latest outing, with our Jurassic Park series IMDB scores and release years rundown.
Jurassic Park (1993) – IMDb score 8.2
Jurassic Park is an extraordinary movie and one of the best in cinematic history. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Sir Richard Attenborough, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, it’s an almost flawless example of a big-budget film with real impact. From the trembling ripples on a glass of water as the T-Rex escapes to the tip-tapping of the velociraptor’s claws, every scene piles on the tension. The original film rightfully belongs at the very top of any list of Jurassic Park movies in chronological order, not because it's the first, but simply because it's the best.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) 6.6
It was always going to be a tough act to follow Jurassic Park, but the second instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise, ranked by IMDb, took a different direction and a slightly darker tone. Jeff Goldblum revived his previous role, and the overall mood was more sombre as the realisation kicked in just how dangerous large reptiles really are! With Steven Spielberg in the director's chair once again, Lost World is an underrated film that is undoubtedly worthy of a second watching.
Jurassic Park III (2001) IMDb score 5.9
Sam Neill is back as Dr Alan Grant, trying to put the events of his previous encounters with the Jurassic World inhabitants behind him. But history has a way of repeating itself when he's asked to go to an offshore island where scientists are continuing their genetic experiments. Of course, things go awry from the outset as new dangers confront the visitors at every turn. Directed by Joe Johnston, it's a very different film from the others in the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies timeline.
Jurassic World (2015) IMDb score 6.9
Chris Pratt takes the lead in this new direction for the Jurassic Park franchise. Ranked by IMDb with a respectable 6.9 score, it's a return to the concept of enormous, unpredictable and very bitey dinosaurs in close proximity to unpredictable (and often quite stupid) human beings. The park has reopened, and corporate suits are in charge; things inevitably start to go wrong. When Indominus Rex, a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, escapes containment and goes on a killing spree, it’s up to Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, to save the day.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) IMDb score 6.1
The fifth film in the Jurassic Park franchise and the second in the Jurassic World trilogy, Fallen Kingdom, picks up three years after the events of Jurassic World. Directed by J.A. Bayona, the story follows Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), now leading the Dinosaur Protection Group, and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) as they return to Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from a volcanic eruption. Things, however, are never as they seem in the Jurassic World storyline, and things get difficult when Claire and Owen discover a conspiracy to auction off the dinosaurs and create a new genetically engineered hybrid—the Indoraptor. With a solid 6.1 score on the IMDb ratings for the Jurassic World trilogy, Fallen Kingdom is a dark and underappreciated movie that’s full of surprises. It also marks the return of Jeff Goldblum to the story.
Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) IMDb score 5.6
This sweeping, visually spectacular film is the grand finale of the Jurassic World trilogy and a nostalgic reunion for fans of the original Jurassic Park. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, we’re now in a very different world, four years after the devastation of Isla Nublar and after dinosaurs have taken their place back in the planet's ecology. Dinosaurs now roam freely across the globe, so humans and prehistoric creatures must learn how to coexist. Nobody counted on nature throwing some ferocious giant insects into the mix, though. Add in some shady corporate characters bent on making a profit at the cost of everyone else, and you have a busy plot, lots of wow moments, and a fitting conclusion to the Jurassic World trilogy. IMDb ratings may be slightly lower than those of others in the series, but this film is still well worth watching.
Jurassic World: Rebirth – 2025
So where next? As the trilogy is completed, Rebirth must take the storyline in a whole new direction. This eagerly-awaited movie hits screens this July and is set to be bigger and better than almost every other Jurassic film in its wake. Jurassic World: Rebirth is the seventh instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise and is directed by Gareth Edwards. While linked to the events of Dominion, it takes the story in a new direction with a new cast.
The premise is that five years after the events of Dominion, dinosaurs are on the decline. However, their DNA could hold the key to a potentially life-saving drug. Naturally, things never go quite to plan, and a new team led by Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett have a whole heap of trouble on their hands. The film also stars Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, and Rupert Friend, along with Luna Blaise and David Iacono. We don't yet have an IMDb score for this one, but we expect it to be high!
