1. Knives Out (2019) - 7.9/10
Knives Out is a delight from start to finish. A star-studded cast creates a web of intrigue when the patriarch of a wildly eccentric and dysfunctional family dies under mysterious circumstances. Craig plays Benoit Blanc, a detective who is enlisted to get to the truth, but on the way, many skeletons start falling out of closets, and everyone seems to have a motive for wanting to see the patriarch shuffle off into an early grave. Also starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Christopher Plummer, and Ana de Armas.
2. Casino Royale (2006) - 8.0/10
Craig's Bond catalogue contains some of the most hard-hitting and high-octane outings for the British secret agent in years, but Casino Royale takes us back to the start. This remake of the first Bond story sees the agent attempt to defeat a banker known for funding terrorist organisations in a high-stakes poker game. Starring Judi Dench, Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, and Jeffrey Wright.
3. Skyfall (2012) – 7.8/10
Skyfall exploded onto our screens in 2012 and immediately became one of the top Daniel Craig movies of all time. This is pure James Bond at its action-packed best, where loyalties are called into question, and a new and deadly enemy is determined to destroy MI6 and all who work there. Starring Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, and Judi Dench.
4. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) - 7.8/10
This adaptation of the novel by Stieg Larsson is a deep, dark and disturbing Nordic thriller. Craig plays Mikael Blomkvist, a disgraced journalist tasked with finding the missing daughter of a wealthy industrialist. The trouble is she went missing 40 years earlier, and the trail has gone cold. Blomkvist employs the help of a talented hacker, and together, they reignite the search once again. A brilliant and mesmerising performance by Craig makes this one of the best Daniel Craig movies you'll ever watch.
5. Road to Perdition (2002) - 7.7/10
In 1930s America, mobsters ruled supreme. In this violent and action-packed thriller, Craig plays the volatile son of an Irish-American mob boss who goes after an associate and his family after a hit goes badly wrong. A game of cat and mouse ensues, dialling up the tension in this edge-of-your-seat thriller. Also starring Tom Hanks, Tyler Hoechlin, Paul Newman, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
6. Elizabeth (1998) - 7.4/10
Demonstrating that a list of movies by Daniel Craig isn't all James Bond and action thrillers, this historical biopic of Queen Elizabeth I of England is a film filled with courtly intrigue and plots. When the young daughter of Henry VIII ascends the throne, there are plenty who want her gone. Despite appearing well down the list of cast members, Craig's performance as John Ballard, a priest involved in the plot to assassinate the queen, is powerful and moving. Starring Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth, Terence Rigby as Bishop Gardiner, and Christopher Eccleston as the Duke of Norfolk.
7. Layer Cake (2004) - 7.3/10
If you’re going to be a successful drug lord, you need to get your priorities right and be meticulous about the details. Daniel Craig has to do one more job for his boss and find the big man’s missing daughter. Directed by Matthew Vaughn, who worked with Guy Richie and directed the Kingsman series, this is a gritty British drama that pulls no punches and is one of the best Daniel Craig movies on the list.
8. The Adventures of Tintin (2011) - 7.3/10
In complete contrast to Layer Cake, Tintin is a wonderfully imaginative animated version of the famous French cartoon taken to a new level. This superb animation features a host of stars as the voices of the different characters, as Tintin, who has bought a model ship from a market stall, is sucked into a pirate-filled adventure. Craig provides the voice for Sakharine, and the film also stars the vocal talents of Jamie Bell as Tintin, the incredible Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, and Simon Pegg as Thompson.
9. Logan Lucky (2017) 7.0/10
Demonstrating that he can do comedy as well as action, Logan Lucky is a funny film that mixes up an old-fashioned bank heist with NASCAR motor racing. Craig’s convict safe-cracker is broken out of jail to help two brothers and their sister rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway during a race. Sounds simple, but things go wrong from the start. Also starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Farrah Mackenzie.
10. No Time to Die (2021) 7.3/10
We had to finish our list of the top 10 Daniel Craig movies with his last outing as Bond. Retirement never comes easy for a secret agent, and once more, Bond is recruited by long-time CIA friend Felix Leiter to find a kidnapped scientist. Dramatic, typically Bond with some incredible action sequences and breathtaking chases, No Time to Die is a fitting end to Craig's tenure as the suave agent. There won't be a dry eye in the house at the end. Also starring Ana de Armas, Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes as M, and Naomie Harris as Moneypenny.
This is just a small selection of what has been a rich and varied career to date. With so many more movies by Daniel Craig to discover, you could have a month’s worth of movie marathons watching one of the best actors to come out of the UK in a very long time.
